Are unions more of a problem than a solution today?

It is with great sadness and regret we announce the untimely passing of Local 464 Shop Steward and friend Scott Allen. Scott was a respected advocate for his fellow workers. He handled all Union business with compassion, fairness and kind humour. He will be missed by all.

"This employer is using scabs to put my members out of work," an angry Rod Blackburn, secretary-treasurer of Teamster Local 31 told the Tyee on July 7. "This is a nasty strike in which the employer is waging war on our members."

Blackburn's local represents over a hundred train attendants who work on the Mountaineer's luxury tourist trains. The Teamster members have been locked out by their employer since June 22.

Teamsters 464 is proud of our members and would like to take this opportunity to honour the achievements of Dean Grant [Shop Steward, Agrifoods]. Dean has been BC and National Trucking Champion several times. In 2010 Dean was BC Truck driving Champion in the Tandem category and Canadian Grand Champion. Dean has won in four out of the five Truck Driving categories and plans to win his fifth and final category this upcoming year. Way to go Dean!

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters opened their 28th International Convention with plenty of noise and a new resolve to stand up for the American Dream. The Convention opened in grand style, living up to its theme of “Vision, Solidarity, Action”.
