Nobody saw a global pandemic coming for 2020 and nobody expected us to still be dealing with it through the end of 2021.

What we had originally locked ourselves away from, we now live with on a daily basis.  Nearly all BC industries are back in operation, although with some new rules in play, but we’ve adapted our lives to work within the pandemic.

Two short years ago, I wrote about our Local Union’s 100th Anniversary year and looking ahead to a bright future with a great Team and Membership.  Then COVID stole the headlines for 2020.

Teamsters come to the aid of Disaster Victims in BC

Laval, December 3, 2021 – Teamsters Canada, Teamsters Joint Councils 36, 52, 90 and 91 will donate a total of $200,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for flood relief in British Columbia.

After devastating forest fires last September, British Columbia is now experiencing historic torrential rains that have literally flooded an entire portion of the province.

A Nation remains divided regarding the effects of the Residential Schools Program perpetrated on our neighbours in the Indigenous community, but it appears that we may have turned a corner on this subject.

The Residential Schools Program remains a black-mark on our Nation’s history. The Government of Canada, in tandem with some religious organizations, was responsible for removing Indigenous children from their families and attempting to strip their Native Culture from them at several Residential Schools around the Nation.  It has been called a form of “cultural genocide”.

Through unforeseen challenges, time and again, our Teamsters Local 464 Brothers and Sisters have continued to provide their employers and community with skill, quality and professionalism.

On September 6th Teamsters Local 464 celebrates Labour Day.  We recognize the dedication of our Members and we also remember the efforts of the many Teamsters who have paved the way throughout the years.
