Notice - Executive Board Changes
I would like to provide a brief update from the Dairy Division of Teamsters Canada to augment the excellent coverage already being provided by Brother John McCann, regarding the ongoing NAFTA negotiations. I have attached 2 articles (see links below) which I trust are of interest to provide an overview of what is at stake should the Canadian dairy supply management system fall prey to the US demands, as well as an article highlighting an article highlighting an ever-increasing number of US dairy advocacy groups suggesting the US dairy industry would be well served if they were to adopt a...

Ottawa, September 27, 2017 – The following is a joint statement from Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa and Teamsters Canada President François Laporte in response to the end of round three of NAFTA renegotiations in Ottawa.
“Teamsters sent a strong and diverse coalition to Ottawa to advocate for workers during NAFTA talks.
“Teamsters urged Canadian officials to work with the United States to fix the mistake of including long-haul trucking in the original NAFTA. U.S. and Canadian negotiators were briefed on suggested language that would provide a level-playing field, ensure a safe trucking...

NAFTA stands for the North American Free Trade Agreement and was created in 1994 as an expanded version of the 1998 Canada-U.S. free trade agreement. Essentially, it removed ‘barriers to the flow of goods and labour between Canada, the United States and Mexico.’
According to the Globe and Mail, Trump has a list of...
The following is a joint statement from Teamsters General President Jim Hoffa and Teamsters Canada President François Laporte in response to the end of round two of NAFTA negotiations in Mexico City earlier this week.
“We applaud the Canadian delegation for insisting on truly high-standard text – especially as to labour issues, which were regulated to unenforceable side agreements 25 years ago. Despite a lack of transparency from the U.S. government, we know that the Canadian proposals could do more to protect workers’ rights in North America than any previous trade agreement.
“We agree with...
