Teamsters are calling for dairy workers to be compensated in the upcoming federal budget for losses from recent trade agreements. The union represents 5,000 dairy workers in Canada in the dairy processing sector and in bulk milk and dairy product transportation.

“If a government finds it is necessary to compensate an industry for harm caused by a trade deal, then they should also explicitly compensate workers,” explained François Laporte, President of Teamsters Canada. “Compensating businesses will not help workers lose their jobs. The benefits do not trickle down.”

Local 464 mourns the passing of, life-long labour activist, Arthur “Art” Alexander Kube (January 9, 1935 – February 10, 2019).  Throughout his life, Art was a Union Organizer, the Regional Director of Education of the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and the developer CLC’s Winter School at Harrison Hot Springs. Kube was also past President of the BC Federation of Labour and the Chairperson for the largest political protest in BC’s history, Operation Solidarity. BC has lost a treasure, a real advocate for the working man. He will be missed.

Local 464 would like to welcome into the Teamster Brotherhood employees from the Saputo Delta facility.

Local 464 would like to congratulate our new Brothers and Sisters at Ultima Foods (Olympic Dairy) on the overwhelming ratification of their first collective agreement, which was accepted by a margin of 86%!  We look forward to working with you and ask all Teamster members to support this new group by supporting their great (and some alternative) Olympic branded yogourt products, found throughout the cooler section of your local supermarket.
