A Holiday Message

We are as surprised as anyone that we’re at Christmas already, where does the time go?

It’s been a very busy year at the Local, completing bargaining with The Original Cakerie and Canada Bread (Bimbo Canada).  Bargaining with Agrifoods and Agropur are ongoing as I write this.  Meanwhile, Lactalis (Olympic Dairy) is waiting in the wings.

The IBT is back in the swing of things, with the Bakery and Dairy Divisions holding conferences once again, as well as the IBT Unity Conference in October and various other conferences.

Teamsters Canada held a very successful fundraiser for their vocational scholarship, available for Canadian Teamster members, while the JR Hoffa scholarship and the new IBT scholarship are available to support the education of the family members of our membership. (Keep an eye on your Union notice board for details!)

Local 464 held our now annual charity golf tournament in September, raising $2,900 for Coast Mental Health Foundation, who we’ll be partnering with again for 2024’s tournament.

Also, the four BC Teamster Locals affiliated with Joint Council 36 held their inaugural Education Week for a select group of our Shop Stewards, which went off without a hitch in October. This is planned to be an annual affair, bringing together Stewards from across BC and the Yukon and all four Locals.

One constant has been the support of our members, and that is the best gift of all.

From all of us at the Local, we hope you find the time to enjoy the Celebratory Season with friends and family.  We wish for you to have a safe and happy Season and a prosperous New Year!

Fraternally,

Paul Barton

Secretary-Treasurer

“I look after a lot of members in a very big plant. For years I had to fight for them by myself with no help at all from any of the Union’s representatives or Officers. This changed completely once Bobby, Bob and Paul were in office. Now I have access to my reps 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!  They’re always there to back me up.”

- Darrell Lawres – Chief Shop Steward. Saputo, Sperling

"I was there when we brought the Union in. The first-time contract they won for us was unbelievable. It changed the quality of my life. I am now a Shop Steward and enjoy working with my Union and looking after my fellow workers. "

- Paul Landrecht - Shop Steward. Island Farms Dairy.

"I have been a member of Teamsters Local 464 for 23 years and have seen many of the executives come and go. Some of the previous executives nearly ran the Local into bankruptcy including losing our pension.  Bobby Kornhass, Bob Ryder and Paul Barton brought us back from the brink. Since they took over in 2000, we at Dairyland (Saputo) have had the best contracts I have seen since I have been there."
