Brother Barton has been a Teamster since 1991. Having been employed in both the dairy and bakery industries serve him well in his role as Secretary-Treasurer with Local 464.
Paul
has worked as a truck driver, production worker, machine operator,
warehouseman, checker/loader, automated warehouse operator, etc. In the workplace
he has acted as a Shop Steward, an advocate for his fellow workers and a Union
activist. He first became a Business-Representative in 2002, President in 2014,
and Secretary-Treasurer in April of 2015.
Paul currently sits as a Trustee
with the Teamsters Canada Pension Plan and Chair's the Dairy Division
Retirement Committee. He currently holds his Foundations of Trust Management
Standards (FTMS), Advanced Trust Management Standards (ATMS) and is working on
his Master of Trust Management Standards (MTMS).
He also acts as Teamsters
Canada's Dairy Director in support of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters'
Dairy Conference.
With a great interest in
workplace safety, Paul served as the sole labour representative on the Board of
Directors through the formative years of a provincial safety board: the Food
Industry Occupational Safety Association (FIOSA). FIOSA (now
known as Manufacturing Safety Alliance of BC (MSABC)) has gone on to become the
preeminent occupational safety organization in all of British Columbia, if not
the nation. The work the Association does impacts not only our Local but all
workers in British Columbia.
In addition to his time with
FIOSA, Paul has volunteered in many other areas: he was a long-serving
volunteer and co-chair of the Teamsters Committee with Variety - the Children’s Charity; spent
numerous years as a youth soccer coach and served on the Club’s Executive;
served as a community volunteer with several organizations and events.
