Right-to-work

Right-to-work

WHAT ARE RIGHT-TO-WORK LAWS?

They are...

  • Takes away your weekends, free time, vacations
  • Offers low quality minimum wage jobs
  • Reduces social benefits
  • Takes away fair working conditions
  • Undermines trade unions

Right-to-work is a concept and right-to-work laws derive from them. The concept covers everything that undermines workers directly or indirectly.

First of all the name “right-to-work” is deceiving. These laws are promoted by political leaders and legislators as ‘good’ and ‘progressive’, when in fact they are NOT. They reflect the interests of anti-union groups, right-wing opinion leaders, banks and greedy corporations that ultimately want to destroy and undermine trade unions. Trade unions are progressive organizations that constantly fight to maintain social rights, equality and benefits for Canadian workers.

"I was a Shop Steward and was also on the contract negotiation team. The Union took the time and trouble to learn all about our industry and what we do. This means they are better able to fight for us whether it is on the job or at the bargaining table. We have the best contract in our industry. Thanks guys!"

- Gerald Price - Agrifoods

“They have demonstrated the dedication and leadership that
our Local requires. They have always provided sound counsel, support, and frank
discussion on matters involving the members, contract negotiations and our
Local.“

- Bruce Tillapaugh –Shop Steward. Island Farms, Victoria

“I look after a lot of members in a very big plant. For years I had to fight for them by myself with no help at all from any of the Union’s representatives or Officers. This changed completely once Bobby, Bob and Paul were in office. Now I have access to my reps 24 hours a day, 7 days a week!  They’re always there to back me up.”

- Darrell Lawres – Chief Shop Steward. Saputo, Sperling
