R

Rank and File: The members of a union.

Ratification: Formal approval of a newly negotiated agreement by vote of the Union members affected.

Ratification Vote: A vote of bargaining unit members to accept or reject a proposed Collective Agreement (or other agreement). Every active member of Local 464 has a say in whether a contract is accepted or rejected.

Recall: The process for bringing laid off workers back to work.

Retroactive: A change comes into effect on a date that has passed. For example, if the Union negotiates a wage increase during bargaining, you may be owed that increase back to when the Collective Agreement starts.

Testimonial

"I was there when we brought the Union in. The first-time contract they won for us was unbelievable. It changed the quality of my life. I am now a Shop Steward and enjoy working with my Union and looking after my fellow workers. "

- Paul Landrecht - Shop Steward. Island Farms Dairy.

"I was employed for many years at a Teamster company that was shut down due to the economy. Because of my age, I was worried about starting over. Bobby, Bob and Paul not only negotiated a much better severance package than was in the contract, but they also went the extra mile and got me on at one of their other companies with an even better contract. They continued to help me even though it wasn't their job to."

- Armando Borean

"I have been a member of Teamsters Local 464 for 23 years and have seen many of the executives come and go. Some of the previous executives nearly ran the Local into bankruptcy including losing our pension.  Bobby Kornhass, Bob Ryder and Paul Barton brought us back from the brink. Since they took over in 2000, we at Dairyland (Saputo) have had the best contracts I have seen since I have been there."
